It takes 15 minutes of burpees to burn off a creme egg, but that’s not the point

With just two weeks to go until Easter, you’re either going to be in two camps.

Either you’ll have eaten a Creme Egg every day for the past month and you’re planning to power through until the end. Or you’ll have given up chocolate for Lent and plan to eat your weight in the stuff on the big day.

Chocolate reaches its peak when it’s in Easter egg form.

But because we can never just enjoy the simple things in life, DW Fitness First has brought out a little handy guide to exactly how much or what exercise we’d have to do to burn off various seasonal treats.

Creme Eggs, in all their chocolatey, fondant glory, weigh in at 177kcals each and according to the gym giant, would take 15 minutes of burpees to burn.

If you’ve ever tried to do 15 minutes of burpees, you’ll know that that’s a ridiculous amount of time.

But a Creme Egg is small fry compared to a slice of simnel cake (a fruit cake with almond paste and marzipan) which would take an entire conditioning class to work off. And let’s face it, if you’ve got a whole cake, who’s going to stop at a single slice?

While all these comparisons are useful for understanding energy consumption and for keeping our excess in check, they’re also kind of surplus to requirements.

We know that cake isn’t a health food but it’s damned tasty and enjoying a desert with your family after an Easter meal is probably better for your overall wellbeing than depriving yourself or worrying about spending Easter Monday frantically lunging and lifting like a maniac.

Easter only comes around once a year so if you are trying to shred or maintain your weight, save your treats for that day and give yourself a break. There’s no need to eat a Creme Egg a day but on Easter Day, you’re really not doing it right if you don’t have an Easter egg for breakfast.
