Yes, there are Star Wars references in Ready Player One

Contrary to previous reports, there will be references in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

Despite Spielberg telling press at a conference on Friday that he was not able to get ‘any Star Wars rights’ for the film, Metro know of at least one scene where there is a reference to the iconic 80s movie franchise; Parzival, Wade Watts avatar alter-ego, is showing off to his new crush Art3mis and telling her all about the cool vehicles his pal Aech has when he jokes about the Millennium Falcon.

Now Spielberg has also confirmed that there are also visual references, including R2-D2 and an X-Wing fighter.

‘Everybody cooperated,’ he said of how he approached each studio to ask for the right to include iconic films, TV shows and music from the 80s.

Ready Player One is based on Ernest Cline’s novel about a world in 2045 in which everyone lives in a VR world called the Oasis because the real world is too miserable.

But following the death of the creator of the Oasis, James Halliday, the race is on to complete a challenge he set that will hand over the keys of the Oasis to the winner.
